Multi-disciplinary Study on ICH’s Contribution to Sustainable Development ― Focusing on Education (FY 2018 – FY 2019)
IRCI launched a two-year project, focusing on contribution of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) to SDG 4 (quality education) in FY 2018. The project aims to incorporate ICH into teaching and learning practices in formal and non-formal education. In cooperation with the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (VME) and the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences as for formal education, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in the Philippines as for non-formal education, IRCI created guidelines that utilise unique ICH in their country for educational materials. The guidelines were used in actual teaching and learning settings in each country to testify ICH contribution to SDG 4, especially target 4.7.
Through the feasibility studies in Viet Nam and the Philippines and the international symposium and workshop, it proved that ICH education can help learners acquire academic subjects as well as knowledge and skill of ICH. It also clearly showed that ICH played an important role to nurture learners’ pride and affection towards their community and establish networks among various stakeholders.
