NATURAL HAZARDS
Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on ICH and Natural Disasters (FY 2018)
This project is programmed as an extension of the recent two-year project ‘Preliminary Research on ICH Safeguarding and the Disaster-Risk Management in the Asia-Pacific Region (FY 2016-2017)’, which was the preparatory phase of collecting basic information and building cooperative relationships with local organizations. Based on the outcomes of FY 2016-2017 activities, in 2018, IRCI will organise a regional workshop in Japan to examine various issues related to ICH in the context of natural hazards and disasters and the roles of ICH in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Disaster-Risk Management (DRM). The workshop also aims to extend its geographic focus to other disaster-prone regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean to share its experience and expertise in related research inter-regionally. In continuous cooperation with Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, cases of ICH revitalisation in Japan after the 2011 earthquake will also be shared. This project is expected to contribute to the development of further research focusing on ICH in the context of DRM, not only in the Asia-Pacific but also in other parts of the world, and to promote active involvement of ICH researchers.
Further details will be updated soon.
